Nearly 300 anglers including 12 juniors and 13 ladies fished on 69 boats braving rough weather conditions while competing in this year’s 2013 Make A Wish Tuna Challenge. Anglers weighed in 53 yellowtail to 23-pounds, 24 dorado to 28.5-pounds, 20 bluefin to 43.6-pounds, 1 skipjack tuna and 1 released marlin. World Record Halibut Potential Marco Liebenow got the surprise and the fish of a lifetime recently in Norway. He was fishing in a 19-foot boat with three friends when he hooked something that felt like a submarine. The Coast Guard is reminding the public that flares are to be used for emergencies only, after a series of false alarms in recent days has cost the Coast Guard significant money and resources. Since Friday there have been five cases involving flares within the Coast Guard’s Seventh District. One case involving a Coast Guard C-130 aircraft and small boat search crew cost more than $43,000. Flares are lifesaving visual signaling devices that can be used day or night to alert emergency responders and fellow boaters to an emergency.
