Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) announced today that it has completed the sale of the Hatteras and CABO brands of motoryachts and sportfishing convertibles to Navis HCY Acquisition, an affiliate of Versa Capital, which is based in Philadelphia. Tiger Prawns Invade Gulf Louisiana It is unknown when and how tiger prawns were first introduced into the Gulf of Mexico. In 1988, a portion of a population of reared tiger prawns escaped from a facility on the east coast. Approximately 1,000 adults were later recaptured as far south as Cape Canaveral, Florida. In September 2006, a commercial shrimp fisherman in Mississippi Sound near Dauphin Island, Alabama captured a single adult male and reports from Alabama and Mississippi have been increasing ever since. The great bluefin bite is still underway, but the first albacore of the season is making waves. Tim Husband and crew were fishing 81 miles from Point Loma when a cedar plug was crushed. Angler Ron Springer worked the rod and to their surprise came up with a 30-poundish albacore. Everyone is hoping that it is the first of many. Saltwater Showdown South Florida Tournament POMPANO BEACH, FL- South Florida’s championship tournament is almost here. The last and final leg of Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, the Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Showdown, takes place on August 3rd. Teams had to show off their skills in the first two legs of the series to qualify for this invite only tournament. A little luck and pounds of fish later, 75 teams earned their right to “showdown” for the championship title and a purse in excess of $100,000. San Diego Youth Tournament Young anglers, ages 6 through 15, are invited to compete in the free 11th Annual Young Angler Tournament this summer at the Shelter Island Pier, located at 1776 Shelter Island Drive. The San Diego Sportfishing Council, the International Game Fish Association, sponsors this saltwater event as well as the Port of San Diego.The tournament will feature a points system to allow for catch and release. Warsaw Grouper Fishing Angler Kevin Hatcher dropped a bait down three hundred feet to the base of an oilrig in the Gulf of Mexico and got slammed by this 115-pound warsaw grouper. He fought it for thirty minutes on a Shimano 50-wide with 80-pound main line and a 200-pound leader. Tuna Capsizes Boat Hawaii A local Hawaiian man was out fishing in his 14-foot boat when he hooked a very large yellowfin tuna. Somehow during the battle that ensued, the boat flipped over, during which his leg was entangled in the line. He was being pulled under, but managed to get free of the line and get back on top of his overturned boat. Luckily he was able to use his cell phone to call his wife, who in turn mobilized the USCG. High School Invitational on Wheeler Lake in Decatur, Ala., Saturday by bringing in 16 pounds, 15 ounces of largemouth bass. Each year the Month long, Seward tournament gets more competitive. This year the water was much cooler than normal and fishing in June was late to start.
