Guatemala has a unique conservation effort underway to preserve stocks of pacific sailfish at healthy levels and support a growing fishing tourism industry in the area. The effort is led by the Guatemala Sailfish Commission and its leader, Niels Erichsen, who received the prestigious IGFA Conservation Award in January 2017.
