Greetings from the Tropics, Great summertime action continues at Crocodile Bay Resort! July was an exciting month at CBR with some big days both inshore and offshore. The humpback whales are right on schedule and have been moving into the Gulf of Dulce giving our anglers some great views while traveling to and from the fishing. Offshore has been a mix of the usual suspects with a few marlin coming in, a fairly consistent sailfish bite and some big days on yellowfin tuna and dorado. Once a year, the clubhouse of the world’s oldest fishing club, Tuna Club of Avalon, opens to the public to benefit the Catalina Island Museum. This year’s tours will take place on Saturday, August 11th. Tuna Club historian, Michael Farrior, will lead each tour revealing the rich history and traditions of sport fishing on Catalina Island. The historic clubhouse – a nationally registered historic landmark – houses trophies, artifacts, photographs and other relics documenting the history of big game fishing and the first recorded rod and reel catches of tuna, marlin and broadbill swordfish. Presidential Flamingo Fishing Rodeo The 2018 Presidential Flamingo Fishing Rodeo is set to kick off August 10-12, 2018, highlighting the outstanding summer fishing off northern Costa Rica. A record number of entries are already on the books for this year’s  third annual event. New for this year is a Billfish Division, with prizes for billfish release points as well as dorado, tuna and wahoo, with a $500USD entry fee per team. Yamaha Marine Group announced a new marine plastics removal program in support of the Save Our Seas Act (S. 756), which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on July 25, 2018. Greetings from the Tropics, June was another exciting month at Crocodile Bay Resort, Costa Rica. The fishing last month had a little bit of everything. The roosterfish action was hot with several boats releasing double-digit roosterfish in a single day. Besides the numbers, we caught some trophy fish. Looking at the catch reports for the last couple weeks, I see there were four roosterfish released that were over fifty pounds and a beauty caught by Bryce Johnson a couple of days ago, that was estimated at well over sixty pounds.
