While I was at ICAST, the marlin fishing started to heat up. The groups Bianchi, King, Blenkhorn, and Shapiro all released marlin and the Hines group managed to release three. Most of the fish caught were within fourteen miles of Matapalo rock. The yellowfin tuna are still around and we have been landing a few almost every day. Young anglers ages six through 15 are invited to compete in the free 15th Annual Young Angler Tournament on Saturday August 12th at the Shelter Island Pier, located at 1776 Shelter Island Drive in Point Loma. This fun fishing event is produced by the San Diego Sportfishing Council with support from the International Game Fish Association and the Port of San Diego. The 13th annual East Cape Dorado Shoot Out was held on July 15, 2017 at the Van Wormer Resorts in Los Barriles. This is the largest fishing tournament in Southern Baja with an average turnout of 125 teams each year. What makes this event so popular is the low entry fee along with a big pay out.
