12-Month Fishing Licenses Senate Bill 187, which would establish a 12-month fishing license, passed the Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously last week– and we expect a vote on the Senate Floor tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31st. This is great news considering that in 2015 similar legislation was gutted by this committee. SB 187, authored by Senator Tom Berryhill, aims to fix California’s costly and antiquated fishing license program that has experienced a 55% decline in annual fishing license sales since 1980, as its population has increased by 60%. In contrast, reforms in Texas and other states have resulted in increased license sales and revenue.…

Icicle River Chinook Salmon Fishing Closure Effective date: May 15, 2017. Spring Chinook salmon fishing will remain closed in the Icicle River in Chelan County, Washington.  Due to low returns being recorded, the chinook salmon season will not open as predicted in the previous fisheries pamphlet. As part of efforts to improve public amenities on the Port of San Diego’s dynamic waterfront, the Shelter Island Boat Launch Facility Improvement Project is now under construction. This project is an important grant-funded upgrade for the Shelter Island Boat Launch, and represents the culmination of years of planning and public outreach. This free, public boat launch was originally constructed in the 1950s and underwent upgrades in 1976 and 2005. Currently it services approximately 50,000 launches per year and is believed to be the busiest boat launch in California. The project will make this public amenity safer and more navigable,…
