He was found at home by his wife, collapsed of an apparent heart attack. Earlier this year environmental organizations filed a petition to ban all fishing, including sportfishing, for bluefin tuna off the Pacific Coast. Taking exception, several conservation organizations representing anglers along the Pacific Coast and across the nation joined together to submit official comments to NOAA Fisheries opposing listing Pacific bluefin tuna under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Joining the ASA were the Coastal Conservation Association, the Coastside Fishing Club and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation. Earlier this year, a petition was filed by 14 environmental groups to list the Pacific bluefin tuna (PBT) as threatened or endangered via the Endangered Species Act (ESA). If enacted, this listing would ban all fishing offshore in California. NOAA needs to hear from anglers like you before this unnecessary policy is implemented. While there has been a decline in the global PBT stock in recent years, an ESA listing would penalize American anglers who take only 1.5% of the stock but allow fishing by Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Mexico to continue. 4 New Biosphere Reserves The President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, signed a decree announcing the formation of four new terrestrial and marine biosphere reserves that will bring the country’s total to 91 million hectares set aside for preservation. These reserves will be named the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve, The Pacific Islands Biosphere Reserve, the Pacific Biosphere Reserve and the Sierra of Tamaulipas Reserve. BoatUs Pegs Hurricane Hurricane Matthew, which threatened four coastal states as it corkscrewed through the Atlantic in early October, caused an estimated $110 million in damage to recreational boats, according to Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS). The national advocacy, services and safety organization suggests that in addition to the storm remaining offshore, boaters and the marine industry had a hand in lessening the damage. “The storm moved slowly, so everyone had plenty of early warning and time to prepare.
