Help us Remove Gillnets off the California Coast Fellow anglers, I have some good news to report in our efforts to encourage West Coast fisheries managers to transition away from drift gillnets, and want to urge all of you to get involved over the next 30 days, prior to a crucial PFMC meeting in November. At September’s PFMC meeting in Sacramento, the Council set a goal of establishing 100% observer coverage on the drift gillnet fishery by 2018. Shark and Hippos What a crazy combo, sharks and hippos. Someone was there to capture the interaction between a herd of hippo and a bull shark that had ventured up a river in South Africa. This rare footage was captured by 30-year-old tour operator, Stacey Farrell from Heritage Tours and Safaris. “During a hippo and crocodile safari on the St Lucia Estuary, we spotted a small bull – zambezi – shark swimming close to the hippo family. The sportboat Legend lived up to its name recently when Capt. Chuck Taft, his son, and the crew of the Legend took a crew-trip with the goal to catch Chuck’s son’s first wahoo. Nothing they could have dreamed up would have prepared them for the epic wahoo bite they experienced.
