Sounds like things have been a little tough down in the Cabo area as the wind has been causing havoc on the offshore fishery. While the excessive wind causes an immediate shock to the predatory species in the long run the upwelling will cause an influx of nutrients which will, in turn, activate the bait fishery. Hope is that once the weather settles down we’ll have great fishing. Inshore it sounds like there is no shortage of action with sierra and yellowtail doing most of the heavy lifting. The Mullet Run has arrived setting the dinner table for a variety of predators inshore. The table is set for some great fishing we just need mother nature to turn off the fan. With the wind blowing consistently out of the south for several days, it has proven difficult to leave the protected backwaters and hit the beaches and offshore areas. San Diego Bay is the third largest of the natural bays in California, plainly put it’s big and deep. The main channel of the bay being able to handle in and out passage of the largest cruise ships and military battle ships. The bay holds a ton of infrastructure that has been developed for military as well as all its urban operations to support its shoreline metropolis. Fall time in Raritan Bay is a special time of year. Marinas are beginning to close, less boats on the water and migrating striped bass coming into local waters. Raritan Bay is a body of water located between the northern coast of New Jersey and New York. Terrebonne Bay is located in Louisiana, in fact, it was ground zero for the last big hurricane to hit the gulf, hurricane Ida. as told by long-time local captain Tommy Pellegrin, although the area sustained incredible amounts of damage, the fishing surprisingly bounced back quickly.
Onslow Bay in North Carolina runs from Cape Lookout to Cape Fear, and is over eighty miles long. While Key West doesn’t exactly fit into the “Bay” description it’s a region we’d be crazy not to mention with so many similarities in fishing and conditions to bays.
he Mobile Bay fishery consists of several distinct fishing zones. From north to south, the Mobile Tensaw Delta, which is fed by five rivers that drain from north and west Alabama, flows into Mobile Bay. This trapezoid shaped tidal bay extends approximately 28-miles north to south and 8-miles from east to west. Extending from the Dauphin Island Bridge at the lower end of Mobile Bay to the Mississippi state line, is the Mississippi Sound. This entire system, along with the tidal rivers that surround it, are bordered on the north by the Alabama coastline and the south by Dauphin Island.
Extending over 400 square miles, Tampa Bay is Florida’s largest estuary. Tampa Bay has four freshwater rivers flowing into it and is also connected to the Gulf of Mexico. With an average depth of 12-feet, the bay’s topography consists of sand, seagrass, oyster beds, and is surrounded by mangrove shorelines. There are hundreds of species of fish to target throughout the year, but the most popular would have to be the grand slam which consists of snook, redfish, spotted sea trout, and tarpon.
